Small scale farmer leaders to discuss climate change and adaptation

 

 

nancy@esaff.orgSmall scale farmer leaders from the countries of eastern and southern Africa; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Seychelles, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, South Africa, and Malawi will convene in Uganda to discuss climate change and adaptation.
 
The workshop organised by ESAFF Uganda under the sponsorship of Canadian funder will be held in Uganda from 26th -28th July 2010.
 
The major objective of the conference is to provide a platform for sharing experiences from Eastern and Southern Africa in Climate Change adaptation and develop actions for further improvement and up scaling of the local adaptations. The sharing would also create a synergy of ideas and an opportunity to stimulate more innovativeness among participants to come up with more effective climate change adaptation mechanisms for improved livelihoods
 
Specific objectives include;

- Information sharing (the focus will mainly be about the effects of Climate Change on Food Security, sustainable agriculture and sustainable livelihoods; the policies on climate change that are working /being developed).

- Document good agricultural practices in adaptation and mitigation of climate change in the different participating countries.

- Share the policies in the different countries and see which ones are working well and also make contribution to the policy processes.

- Develop a position paper on climate change mitigation and adaptation and come up with issues of advocacy that can be fronted by the small scale farmers to their different governments’ and other international platforms.

 - Develop country action plans on the way forward in the different countries.

 
the Expected Outputs include the followings; 

- Country action plans on climate change and adaptation, A document on best practices in adapting to climate change  and a A position paper about adaptation to climate change.
